Alta provided constructability input to support the business case development on the proposed Auckland Light Rail project.

Project scope

This project aimed to enhance Auckland’s public transport offering by connecting key areas of the city through a modern light-rail system.

18 stations were planned along the 24-kilometreroute from Wynyard Quarter in the CBD to Auckland Airport. The stations were designed to improve accessibility and connectivity for residents and visitors of Tāmaki Makaurau.

The project featured a hybrid design approach, with both underground and surface sections to minimise disruption in densely populated urban areas.

Alta’s work

We helped the project team develop the business case by providing design advice and cost estimation for the civils, tunnels and station infrastructure. This included providing input into the project risk and contingency settings.

Our constructability input covered the development of construction methodologies for the stations and tunnels, as well as productivity and programme assumptions.
