Cable Jointing - Brownhill to Pakūranga

The Alta team managed the competitive ECI for the year one works in early 2024, and the year two negotiations in early 2025.
Project scope
Ahigh-voltage underground electricity cable (220kV) runs between Brownhill and Pakūranga substations. Transpower is replacing 45 joints on this cable to prevent further faults and ensure the cable can serve Auckland and Northland in the future.
The joints are located in concrete bays, many under roads or on the roadside. Each bay will be excavated to enable access to the joints, with each joint repair expected to take up to six months to complete.
Alta’s work
Alta oversaw the ECI process, managing two civil contractors and the electrical works main contractor. We coordinated all ECI deliverables, including design reviews, construction methods, temporary traffic and programmes.
Our team reviewed and validated cost estimates, risk pricing and commercial clarifications, and chaired ECI governance and reporting.
