Federal Street Rejuvenation Project

Alta administered the contract and proactively managed site and design issues to support the delivery of Auckland Council’s $5M project. Our team served as Engineer to Contract, Engineer’s Representative and Engineer’s Representative Assistant.

Project scope

The Federal Street rejuvenation project ran between Mayoral Drive and Wellesley Street. Project teams worked in this tight urban space, relocating utilities and upgrading the electrical transmission network.

‘Stockholm’ tree pits were installed to filter pollutants and retain stormwater runoff. These were complemented with large native trees and public art installed along the street.

The team managed significant disruptions during the project, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and contractors occupying part of the site.

Alta’s work

Alta served as Engineer to Contract, Engineer’s Representative and Engineer’s Representative Assistant on this project. Our team drew on our extensive project management experience when liaising with the design team, the client and stakeholders.

Key learnings

We improved our contract communication processes, and fine-tuned our methods for assessing extension of time and variation claims.
