Huia Water Treatment Plant Replacement Project

Alta provided expert constructability advice for consent application and consent hearings on this Watercare project.

Project scope

Watercare operates five dams within the Waitakere Ranges, all of which are treated at the Huia Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

Watercare plans to replace the ageing infrastructure with a new water treatment plant. The project scope includes:

  • A new 140 megalitre water treatment plant
  • New intake tunnels
  • Two 25 megalitre belowground reservoirs
  • A transmission tunnel and pipeline

Alta’s work

Alta provided expert construction advice to support the resource consent application and subsequent hearings. Our advice covered construction logistics, traffic, staging, and programme, along with property requirements and management of Kauri dieback during construction. Alta also provided cost and risk estimation services.

Key learnings

The Huia WTP is a complex project in a sensitive location. We leveraged our construction expertise when developing the consent application to ensure constructability considerations were addressed early. This detailed planning was critical in supporting both the consent application and the hearing process.
