St Marys Bay and Masefield Beach Water Quality Improvement Project

The project is part of the Western Isthmus Water Quality Improvement Programme. A new storage pipeline was constructed to store combined stormwater and wastewater that would otherwise flow into St Marys Bay and Masefield Beach.

The work consisted of:

  • an underground pipeline 1800dia 2km long installed by tunnelling
  • a new 450m long ocean outfall
  • a pump station, three large shafts to facilitate the tunnelling
  • a utility installation via trenching up to 7m deep on Curran and Sarsfield streets
  • spiral wound lining of 1500mm diametre
  • brick pipeline 110m long

We provided expert advice on constructability and procurement models prior to construction. During construction works we were Engineers Representative’s Assistant and Quantity Surveyor. Advice was also provided on commercial matters and we assisted with variation negotiations. Construction monitoring was also carried out, which included health and safety, quality, and programme.
