Auckland Transport
Underground construction and tunnelling
Construction Support
The City Rail Link (CRL) is New Zealand’s largest transport infrastructure project and the first underground railway to be constructed in New Zealand. It will allow the rail network to double its capacity.
It is a 3.45km twin tunnel underground rail link up to 42 metres below the city centre, transforming the downtown Britomart Transport Centre into a two-way through station to better connect the Auckland rail network.
We have been supporting multiple elements and phases of the CRL since 2015 and our work has included:
Contract 1 Britomart
Complex construction interfacing with a live station, including relocation of station facilities and underpinning the historic CPO building. We were engaged to undertake a methodology review with a specific focus on risk assessment and tunnel ventilation.
Contract 2 Albert St
Deep tunnelled stormwater diversion followed by a 400m long cut and cover tunnel box. The scope included deep foundations, earthworks, extensive concrete works and road reinstatement.
Contracts 3, 5, 7 ‘Grand Alliance’
We have developed a construction impacts framework covering construction methodology interfaces with road, rail, active modes, parking, surrounding projects and access for businesses. We are continuing to support the project by working closely with the Alliance.
Contract 6 Stormwater Diversion
Supporting the preparation of management plans and expert input into shaft methodologies impacts on local businesses.
