NIWA is developing an in-land aquaculture facility using water recirculation aquaculture system (RAS).  The aim of the project is to study, develop, and prove the viability of in-land fish farming, creating a more sustainable and reliable food source.

The project consisted of multiple reinforced concrete fish tanks, concrete tanks for water filtration and recirculation system, civil works, building and fitout, and complex piping, mechanical and electrical equipment installation.

Technical experts and suppliers from Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Spain, USA and Taiwan were involved in the project. The challenges with global supply chain issues, unprecedented cost escalation, and COVID-19, made this an exciting and complex project.

We were engaged to manage the project lifecycle, including initial budget estimate, design process, procurement of designers, main contractor, specialised equipment, and through to the construction phase and commissioning.
