Keegan’s civil engineering and construction experience commenced in New Zealand. This was  followed by six years in the UK before returning to New Zealand recently when he joined Alta. His technical expertise covers rail, stations, roading and civils. Keegan is experienced in construction planning and programming. In addition, he is skilled in stakeholder and staff management.

London experience
Keegan is proud of his London-based projects, notably the Waterloo Station upgrade. He managed the architectural package of works, and over the course of two and a half years, he took the works from design conception through to final handover and achieved a visually impressive result. Keegan also worked on other underground/rail station upgrades, and also the Greenwich Peninsula infrastructure improvements and BBC Television Centre residential upgrade.

“Civil engineering has the potential to drastically improve the quality of life in our community and beyond. This is best achieved when egos are left at the door, and the focus is on positive outcomes for the project and the end user.”

Industry Involvement
While at university, Keegan was a member of Engineers Without Borders and helped run the ‘In-Schools’ programme, which introduces civil engineering to students in secondary schools around Auckland. Currently, he is working on becoming a chartered professional. “I was drawn to engineering by the opportunity to make a mark on the world, change surroundings and affect lives for the better. This still keeps me passionate about engineering today. I also enjoy the feeling of revisiting a project once it is complete and reflecting on the challenges and intricacies involved with its delivery.”

Recent projects have included:

  • Drury South Crossing, Phase 2 Roading and Services
  • Kitchener Road trenchless project
  • Budget review/cost verification work for Auckland Council
  • Delivery of annual maintenance spend improving roads in Waitakere for Auckland Transport
  • Programme Management Assistance to Auckland Transport.
