Tom spent the first three years of his career as a design consultant, predominantly in three waters infrastructure design, construction supervision and contract management.

After that he worked for seven years as a contractor in Auckland and Wellington where he undertook site supervision, construction delivery and contract management. This involved working across a variety of sectors including roading, oil and gas, three waters and streetscape upgrades.

“It is spectacular to see what can be achieved when a project team gels together and strive towards a common goal, while understanding what success looks like in the eyes of each party.”

Tom’s career highlights have included:

– Being part of the team for opening the Waterview Tunnel

– Passing the hydro test first-time for the Mobil Kaiwharawhara bund installation:

“We came up with an innovative sprayed concrete construction methodology to overcome challenges of installing a water/fireproof concrete bund wall around the perimeter of a very tight operational bulk fuel terminal, with the perimeter of the compound being mostly surrounded by steep unstable cliff faces in Ngaio Gorge, Wellington.”

– Completing various bulk transmission watermain cut-ins with Watercare

Key Projects include:

  • Auckland Light Rail
  • Snells Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Wolverton Street Culvert Replacements
  • Mobil Kaiwharawhara bund upgrades
  • Porirua City & Kapiti Coast District Councils’ streetscape upgrades
