Tom spent the first three years of his career as a design consultant, predominantly in three waters infrastructure design, construction supervision and contract management.
After that he worked for seven years as a contractor in Auckland and Wellington where he undertook site supervision, construction delivery and contract management. This involved working across a variety of sectors including roading, oil and gas, three waters and streetscape upgrades.

Tom’s career highlights have included:
– Being part of the team for opening the Waterview Tunnel
– Passing the hydro test first-time for the Mobil Kaiwharawhara bund installation:
“We came up with an innovative sprayed concrete construction methodology to overcome challenges of installing a water/fireproof concrete bund wall around the perimeter of a very tight operational bulk fuel terminal, with the perimeter of the compound being mostly surrounded by steep unstable cliff faces in Ngaio Gorge, Wellington.”
– Completing various bulk transmission watermain cut-ins with Watercare
